Description
Take a trip to the 80s with a salmon hat! First introduced in 1987, salmon hats come back after 30 years!

For a bit of history, a single female in the K pod was the first orca seen in 1987 to be doing this. For weeks, the K pod wore salmonsand then they stopped. Until 2019, an orca called A99 "Alder" was seen doing it again. But he didn't start a trend, he was the only one to do it. But recently, on October 25th 2024, J27 "Blackberry" was seen with a dead salmon on his head. 10 days later, another salmon was spotted on an orcas head. Is this a new fad? Or will it die out again? Either way, it's cute! And orcas are very intelligent creatures who have their own languages and culture, so maybe we'll see this again in 30 years time.

Please make a journal when complete so can see your orcas and salmon hats!!

And while we're on the topic, the southern resident orcas (J pod, K pod, and L pod) are critically endangered with only 72 individuals left. This will be the only extinction known to mankind where we know every single individual. All 72 currently living SRKW have an identification number and a name. If you live by orca inhabited waters, please be mindful about how you treat the Earth; especially the water. And if you aren't by orcas, please consider donating to the Whale & Dolphin Conservation USA. Other groups to support include Orca Conservancy, The Whale Museum Center For Whale Research, and Orca Behavior Institute. You can find more at orca.wa.gov
