Description
Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern For A Pillow
Thank you for selecting this pattern and for being a part of my creative journey!
Introducing the Liko Pillow Pattern, a unique creation inspired by the Hawaiian word 'Liko,' which translates to 'leaf bud.' This nature-inspired name hails from the stunning Hawaiian islands and bears a resemblance to popular names like Luke and Luca. This pillow design was conceived during the festive Christmas season in partnership with HOBBII yarns. It's a sibling pattern to The Soothing Beams Pillow, also available in my stores. While originally designed with Christmas in mind, the Liko Pillow is incredibly versatile and can grace your home throughout all seasons and occasions.
Crafted with love, this pattern features the captivating Overlay Mosaic Technique. In this technique, the intricacy of the design unfolds on the right side (RS) of your work, with each round dedicated to a single color. The play of two colors, C1 and C2, alternates in each round, resulting in a mesmerizing mosaic effect.
Throughout the pattern, you'll encounter two key stitch types:
1. **SCS (Single Crochets in the Back Loop):** These are the empty blocks on the chart and are always worked in the back loop only, though we'll refer to them as SC without specifying BL. If a regular SC is required, both the instructions and the chart will indicate so.
2. **DCS (Drop Crochets in the Front Loop):** These are the 'X' blocks on the chart, representing 'drop-down stitches' made in stitches from the corresponding color round, specifically the one two rounds down. In this pattern, we'll refer to them as DC without specifying FL.
At the conclusion of each mosaic round, a strategic slip stitch (SS) is executed with the color of the next round, worked in the back loop of the first stitch. This ingenious technique ensures a seamless transition to the next color, leaving the previous color ready for future use without the need to cut it.
Please note that the beginning chain (CH1) of each round does not count as a stitch.
For this project, I used 100% merino wool, but you're free to select the yarn that best suits your creative vision.
To make your crocheting experience even more delightful, a helpful chart accompanies the pattern. Colored squares within the chart reveal the motif, while empty squares represent SCS, and 'X' squares depict DCS made two rounds below. To use the chart efficiently, print the chart pages in two horizontal lines: the first from 1.1 to 1.4 and the second from 2.1 to 2.4. Cut and attach them to form the complete chart.
The final measurements of the pillow should be approximately 48x46 cm. If you've followed the recommended hook size and yarn type, you'll achieve a perfect size.
The closure method for your pillowcase is a matter of personal preference; you can opt for a row of slip stitches (SS), a zipper, or buttons. The pillowcase is worked from the bottom up in joined rounds, and the chart and instructions are thoughtfully explained for both Front and Back parts. To make your experience even more seamless, I recommend placing a stitch marker each time you reach the last stitch of the Front or Back.
Here's a handy tip: when a round that begins with a DC ends with a DC, for the final DC, the first 'insert hook, yarn over' should be 'insert hook in the stitch, insert hook in the stitch where the first DC was made, yarn over....'. This simple adjustment ensures a neater finish along the sides.
Embrace the allure of the Liko Pillow Pattern, infusing your creative spirit into every stitch. I can't wait to see the magnificent pillow creations you craft using this pattern. Happy crocheting!
